About us
The Lethbridge Youth Justice Committee is made up of community volunteers who assist the government in administering the Extrajudicial Sanctions Program. The EJS Program provides the opportunity for first time young offenders, who have committed less serious offenses, to avoid court proceedings and possibly receiving a criminal record. Our mission
- To reduce over-reliance on the court system for minor offenses committed by young people.
- To reduce Canada's high youth incarceration rate; to make more use of extrajudicial measures.
- To place greater emphasis on rehabilitation and reintegration.
- To impose more community-based sentences for non-violent offenders.
- To promote greater community involvement, and to encourage victim participation.
